Roy Alix
Alix Roy was born in 1930 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He studied at St. Louis de Gonzague and the Louis Hall Institute. He has worked with the first generation artists to join the Centre d’Art namely Luce Turnier, Maurice Borno and Lucien Price. Later he became a draftsman for UNICEF in Haiti.
In 1956 he traveled to New York to work on perfecting his painting technique. At various times he also lived in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
He returned to Haiti in 1978 to settled down.. He has exhibited mainly at Galerie Nader and Expressions Art Gallery in Haiti, Puerto Rico and the United States.
In his book titled” Peintres Hatiens” Gérald Alexis states “ as a humorist, illustrator and painter , Roy observed the world of adults with irony and through children’s eyes.”
His name figures in most of the Haitian art books. Besides, ” Les Peintres Haitiens” , he is mentioned in ” La Peinture Haitienne ” By Gérald Bloncourt and Marie-José Nadal among others.
