Obas Charles
Charles Obas was born in Plaisance, in the North of Haiti in 1927 and died in 1968. His artistic career began at the Art Center, which he left two years after to found the Hall of Plastic Arts. While pursuing his painting career, Obas was also a talented musician. Today his son Beethova Obas is also an appreciated musician artist.
CharlesObas was an artist of great sensitivity and painted canvases characterized by scenes of rain and monochromes in grey.
Obas’s name is mentioned in all major Haitian art books namely
“ Peintres Haitiens” by Gérald Alexis where the later had to say that Obas was “ a defender of Social Realism..” his “ obsessional problems found expression in fluid forms unusual in his time”
Charles Obas’ art works are in permanent display at all the Nader’s art Galleries in Florida and Haiti.
